One Fictitious Moment: Creating Tension

Creating and maintaining tension is a skill that is taught for all kinds of writing – from journalism to detective fiction to wedding speeches. You as the author are tasked with keeping the attention of your reader between long but necessary paragraphs of backstory and dialogue that can span pages and scenes.
